Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Juanda International Airport management reported that 15 flights to and from the terminal were disrupted following heavy rain and extreme wind conditions in Sidoarjo, East Java, on Sunday afternoon (15/3/2026).
"Nine flights experienced significant delays, including routes operated by Lion Air and Super Air Jet heading to Palangkaraya, Lombok, Pekanbaru, and Makassar," said Muhammad Tohir, the General Manager of Juanda International Airport, as reported by antaranews.com.
The adverse weather forced four incoming flights, including a Malaysia Airlines service from Kuala Lumpur—to divert to airports in Semarang and Bali.
In addition, two flights (Lion Air to Pekanbaru and Air Asia to Makassar) were forced to Return to Base (RTB) shortly after takeoff. Beyond flight disruptions, the storm caused trees to fall near the Cargo Terminal and damaged a toll gate post, resulting in one minor injury to a security officer. Despite the structural damage, airport authorities confirmed that all airside facilities remain safe and operational as cleanup efforts continue.
