Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Authorities transferred 57 high-risk inmates from prisons in Riau Islands to the Super Maximum Security Prison on Nusakambangan Island, Central Java, after repeated violations committed by the prisoners.
“The transfer was carried out with joint escorts from our officers, Mobile Brigade, and the Directorate General of Corrections’ Internal Security and Compliance Unit,” said Riau Regional Head of Corrections, Aris Munandar, in a statement on Saturday (23/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The inmates came from Batam Prison, Tanjungpinang Prison, and Tanjungpinang Narcotics Prison. They arrived at Nusakambangan on Friday night, officials confirmed.
Corrections Directorate spokesperson Rika Aprianti said more than 1,150 high-risk inmates involved in violations have been relocated to Nusakambangan Island prison to ensure stricter security and rehabilitation.
The transfers are part of a nationwide crackdown under the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, targeting zero tolerance for narcotics and mobile phones inside prisons.
