Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh.  Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf, also known as Mualem, has called on residents to refrain from raising the moon-and-star flag during the 20th anniversary of the Aceh peace agreement on 15 August.

“We ask everyone to be patient for now, because one day the crescent-and-star flag will be raised,” he said on Wednesday night (13/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

15 August marks two decades since the signing of the Helsinki MoU between the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), which ended decades of armed conflict. 

The former GAM commander stressed the importance of preserving peace for Aceh’s future prosperity and ensuring all points of the MoU are fully implemented.

“This peace is for all of us, for the Aceh we hope for, with a better and more prosperous future,” he said, urging residents to remain calm and united during the commemoration.
