Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman asserted on Saturday (21/2/2026) that cooking oil must remain affordable and available, citing Indonesia's status as the world's leading palm oil producer. 

During an impromptu inspection at Kebayoran Market in Jakarta, the Minister raised his outrage upon finding MinyaKita, the government-subsidized cooking oil brand, selling for Rp19,000 per liter, significantly above the Rp15,700 Highest Retail Price (HET).

"We export oil to the entire world. There is no reason for cooking oil prices to rise in Indonesia," Minister Amran said, as quoted by antaranews.com. 

He emphasized that with Indonesia contributing 58% of global production, domestic supply anomalies are unacceptable, especially ahead of the Ramadan holy month. Rather than penalizing small retailers, the Minister instructed the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police to trace the price hikes back to major distributors and producers. 

Minister Amran personally purchased two packs of MinyaKita cooking oil  to serve as legal evidence, demanding that units found guilty of price manipulation be sealed and publicly announced. Despite a 21.83% increase in the value of CPO exports in 2025 (totaling $24.42 billion), the government maintains that international market strength must not come at the expense of domestic food security.
