Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Agriculture has partnered with the Army to expedite food self-sufficiency, particularly in rice production, as mandated by President Prabowo Subianto.
"Today, we signed a commitment to achieve food self-sufficiency as quickly as possible, following the President’s directive," Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman said during a coordination meeting in Jakarta on Thursday (12/12/2024).
The Ministry held a national coordination meeting involving the Army and agricultural heads across Indonesia to prepare for the program.
Key efforts include ensuring the availability of fertilizers, agricultural machinery, and logistical support across regions, from Merauke to Aceh. Full implementation begins on 1 January 2025.
The collaboration extends to police support for corn production and involvement from the Ministry of Public Works for irrigation. The Army will focus on rice production by optimizing existing farmland, aiming to increase harvest cycles from two to three or four annually.
Army Deputy Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Tandyo Budi, reaffirmed the Armys commitment to assisting the program, ensuring that the President’s targets for food self-sufficiency are achieved efficiently.
