Inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. The Andir Police Office arrested a 40-year-old man for using AI-generated photos of himself in a police uniform to deceive a resident and extor Rp 600,000 in Bandung, West Java.

The incident occurred on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Andir District, on 11 August 2026. The suspect, identified as S, stopped a resident under the guise of conducting a drug inspection, falsely claiming to be a police officer.

"Upon checking the suspect's mobile phone, we found an AI-generated photo displaying him wearing a police uniform," said Andir Police Chief Senior Superintendent Triyono Raharjo on Friday (14/2026).

After gaining the victim's trust, S searched the victim's wallet, took Rp 600,000, and fled the scene, according to antaranews.com. 

Suspect S, a native of Medan who recently arrived in Bandung, admitted to committing the crime to send money to his child. He faces up to nine years in prison under the Criminal Code.
