inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) stated that handling narcotics and terrorism requires a similar, but not identical, approach.

During a working visit to the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) office in Bogor, West Java, on Thursday (4/9/2026), BNN Head Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto explained the approach, namely controlling addiction in narcotics cases and addressing ideology in terrorism.

"These efforts need to be strengthened through value development and economic empowerment, such as shifting commodities from marijuana to coffee in Gayo Lues," said the BNN Head on Monday (4/13/2026).

Suyudi also highlighted the increasingly complex developments in drug abuse, including in e-cigarettes. He stated that the discovery of e-cigarette fluids mixed with dangerous substances such as etomidate is a serious concern, especially given the rise in vaping use among the younger generation.

He appreciated the development approach, which focuses not only on punishment but also on empowerment. He stated that providing skills is key to enabling inmates to return to being productive in society.

Suyudi emphasized that strengthening synergy between institutions is key to addressing increasingly complex and cross-sectoral crime threats.

"BNN is committed to continuously expanding collaboration, strengthening information exchange, and integrating prevention and enforcement efforts to ensure more effective and sustainable narcotics handling at the national level," he said.
