In the bust, police arrested a man identified as SH (35) in the Grogol Petamburan area, West Jakarta.
The case came to light after police received information from the public regarding suspicious activity on Jelambar Baru Raya Road, West Jakarta.
"The case was uncovered based on information from the public regarding suspicious activity on Jelambar Baru Raya Road, West Jakarta," said Central Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Reynold E.P. Hutagalung, in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday (9/14/2026).
Following up on this information, the Operational Unit 3 team from the Central Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Narcotics Investigation Unit conducted an investigation and surveillance in the Grogol Petamburan area.
Officers subsequently identified and arrested SH. During the search, police found narcotics packages hidden in a paper bag. Investigators then expanded their search to the suspect's boarding room.
As a result, officers found another gray suitcase containing seven large packages of methamphetamine. The total amount of evidence seized was 7,218.1 grams.
Police are continuing to investigate the case to track down a drug dealer identified as B, who is currently on the wanted list.
For his actions, SH has been charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 112 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, which carries a penalty of death, life imprisonment, or a minimum of six years and a maximum of 20 years in prison.
"This discovery is proof that we will not allow drug dealers to operate. We will continue to ensure that Central Jakarta is free from narcotics," said Reynold.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Narcotics Investigation Unit, Superintendent Wisnu S. Kuncoro, stated that SH is suspected of acting as an intermediary in the narcotics transaction.
"The suspect's modus operandi is to act as an intermediary in the narcotics trade. According to his confession, the suspect was working under the orders of a drug dealer with the initials B, who is currently a fugitive," Wisnu said.
According to Wisnu, SH was promised a reward of IDR 5 million for every kilogram of methamphetamine successfully distributed. The suspect has received IDR 6 million, with the remaining balance promised after all the narcotics are sold.
Wisnu said the confiscation of 7.2 kilograms of methamphetamine is expected to prevent narcotics from being circulated and consumed by the public.
