Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Defense has dismissed circulating reports regarding an alleged agreement with the United States, clarifying that Indonesia maintains absolute authority and control over its national sovereign airspace.
"Every defense cooperation scheme is meticulously calculated to prioritize national interests. Indonesia retains the full authority to approve or deny any activity within its national airspace," said Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, the Head of the Bureau of Information Bureau, on Monday (13/4/2026), as cited by antaranews.com
He responded to growing public concern over a draft document suggesting that U.S. aircraft would be granted broad flight permissions over Indonesian territory for emergency and training operations.
Chief Rico emphasized that the document in question is merely an early internal draft currently under inter-agency review. It is not a final agreement, lacks legal force, and does not represent official government policy.
The Ministry urged the public to remain cautious of unverified information, reaffirming that Indonesia’s "free and active" foreign policy ensures cooperation with international partners is always based on mutual respect and the preservation of state sovereignty.
