Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team has sent DNA samples from victims of the fatal ALS bus crash in North Musi Rawas, also known as Muratara, to the Indonesian National Police (INP) Headquarters laboratory to accelerate the identification process for 16 victims whose bodies were severely burned in the accident.
"We are currently selecting the best samples to be sent," said Senior Superintendent Budi Susanto, the Head of the Bhayangkara Mohammad Hasan Hospital in Palembang, on Thursday (7/6/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
He explained that forensic teams face significant challenges as the remains sustained up to 99 percent burns, making visual identification impossible.
Of the 16 body bags received by the hospital, 11 families have already provided reference samples for matching. Authorities are still waiting for the families of the remaining five victims to come forward. The laboratory in Jakarta will conduct detailed testing to ensure all victims are accurately identified before being released to their relatives.
