inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that 15 homes were damaged by high sea waves in Banggai Laut Regency, Central Sulawesi.

The Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, stated that of these, seven homes suffered minor damage, while eight others were severely damaged.

The damage occurred in several coastal areas, namely Kendek Village in North Banggai District, and Lambako and Pasir Putih Villages in Banggai District.

"The local National Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Rapid Response Team has conducted an assessment. Tidal flooding accompanied by high waves also continues to threaten residential areas along the coastline," explained Head of the Center, Abdul, on Monday (4/20/2026).

The incident occurred on Saturday (4/18/2026) at around 3:00 a.m. The previously calm sea conditions suddenly changed, with high waves crashing into residential areas while most residents were still asleep.

Based on documentation received by the BNPB Operations Control Center, most of the heavily damaged houses were semi-permanent structures with plank walls and roofs made of woven coconut or nipah leaves.

While the current condition of all affected families has not been detailed, BNPB confirmed that the victims are receiving assistance from the Banggai Laut Regency BPBD Rapid Response Team.
