inp.polri.go.id - South Sumatra. The South Sumatra Regional Police destroyed drugs evidence worth IDR 7.96 billion (approximately US$700,000) from 20 cases uncovered during July 2026, targeting a drug trafficking network in the region.

The destruction of the evidence was led by the Head of Drugs Criminal Investigation Supervision Division of the South Sumatra Regional Police.

"The destroyed evidence represents the result of investigators' hard work in uncovering the drug trafficking network. This activity demonstrates transparency in law enforcement and our commitment to continuing to protect the public," he said on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).

The destroyed evidence included 4,041.85 grams of methamphetamine, 17,981 ecstasy pills, and 727.8 milliliters of etomidate liquid. A small portion of this evidence was set aside for trial and forensic laboratory examination.

Evidence worth IDR 7,969,804,000 was confiscated from 27 suspects arrested in various regions, including eight cases in Palembang City, five cases in Banyuasin Regency, three cases in Musi Banyuasin, two cases in Ogan Komering Ilir, and one case each in Ogan Ilir and Muara Enim.

"The disclosure of this case is estimated to have saved approximately 83,926 lives from potential drug abuse," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu'min Wijaya, emphasized that eradicating drugs is one of the police's top priorities in maintaining the quality of human resources and supporting national development.

"The illicit trafficking of drugs is an extraordinary crime that threatens the future of our country's future generations. We will continue to take firm action against all perpetrators without discrimination," said Nandang.

For their actions, the suspects were charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, as well as the provisions of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, according to the construction of each case, with a maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment.
