Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Dumai Resort Police in Riau foiled an attempt to illegally smuggle 68 people, comprising 61 Indonesians and seven foreign citizens from Myanmar and Bangladesh, to Malaysia. 

Authorities intercepted the group at Selinsing Beach, Medang Kampai, as they prepared to depart from an unauthorized port without legal travel documents.

"Two suspects were secured at Selinsing Beach, Pelintung Village," said Riau Regional Police Director of Criminal Investigation Senior Superintendent Hasyim Risahondua during a press conference on Thursday (23/4/2026). 

He identified the suspects as MF, who managed the temporary shelter, and RGS, who served as the driver transporting the victims to the coastline.

The Indonesian migrant workers hailed from various regions, including Aceh and Lombok, while the foreign citizens were handed over to the Dumai Immigration Office for processing. The suspects, who admitted to the crime for financial gain, face charges under the 2017 Law on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, which carries heavy criminal penalties.
