Working alongside multi-agency teams, law enforcement prioritized environmental recovery across affected coastal sectors.
East Nusa Tenggara Police Director of Water and AIr Senior Superintendent Irwan Deffi Nasution confirmed that the leak occurred during salvage operations to raise the sunken vessel KM Kuala Emas using the Hong Bang 6 crane barge. The oil leak impacted coastal zones across Semau District, including Hansisi, Uiasa, Huilelot, Onansila, Uitiuh Ana, Akle, Naikean, Letbaun, and Batuinan villages.
"Our officers were immediately deployed to the site to collect statements, confirm the source of the incident, assess damage levels, and support field response measures," he said.
Contractors deployed four response vessels, installed oil booms to contain the slick, used absorbent pads, and applied dispersants. Over five to six tons of oil have been successfully recovered from the water surface so far.
