inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo revealed that 665 online gambling cases had been handled in the past year.
"We have successfully uncovered 665 cases, named 741 suspects, confiscated assets worth IDR 1.5 trillion, blocked 5,961 accounts and 241,013 online gambling content sites, and implemented 1,614 preventive measures," said General Sigit during a Hearing with Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (1/26/2026).
According to the INP Chief, factors contributing to people's addiction to online gambling include fear of missing out (FOMO) and unemployment. Furthermore, low literacy rates also contribute to the rise of online gambling.
"Some factors contributing to the proliferation of online gambling are unemployment, FOMO, lack of welfare, low education, low technological literacy, and high social inequality," said General Sigit.
The INP Chief added that eradicating online gambling presents its own challenges. However, INP continues to optimize its efforts to eradicate online gambling.
"The challenges related to this eradication are due to the different legal frameworks in each country, including cross-transaction servers, varying regulations, and taxes. Furthermore, we have also discovered patterns of layering transactions involving multiple accounts, even overseas accounts, including shell company accounts, both domestically and internationally," explained General Sigit.
