Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for a comprehensive investigation following a fatal explosion and fire aboard the UAE-flagged tugboat Musaffah 2 in the Strait of Hormuz.
"The Ministry is pushing for a thorough probe into this incident as our representatives coordinate closely with UAE and Omani authorities," said Ministry Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang on Sunday (8/3/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
The incident, which occurred early Friday, involved five Indonesian nationals among the crew and technical staff operating between Emirati and Omani waters. While two Indonesians have been accounted for, including one receiving treatment for severe burns in Oman, three Indonesian crew members remain missing.
Rescue teams are currently scouring the strategic waterway to locate the missing sailors while diplomatic missions provide support to the survivors' families. The tugboat was reportedly inspecting a damaged container ship when a sudden blast triggered the blaze. Officials have urged all Indonesian maritime workers in the Middle East to heighten vigilance amid the ongoing regional security assessments.
