Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian announced the decision following Presidential Decree No. 33 of 2024, signed by President Prabowo Subianto on 21 November 2024.
"We are officially announcing that voting day for the regional elections will be a national holiday," he said on Friday (22/11/2024).
The elections will take place across 545 regions, including 37 provinces, 415 districts, and 93 cities. The holiday aims to encourage greater voter participation without work-related barriers.
