Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that the decision follows President Prabowo Subianto's directives following his visits to Russia and France.

After meeting with President Prabowo at the State Palace, the Minister of ESDM stated that the stability of subsidized fuel prices remains in line with the maintained national energy supply.

"I convey to the public that our stocks are above the minimum standard, be it diesel, gasoline, or LPG. It's safe, and once again, I reiterate that we have agreed, based on the President's directive, that subsidized fuel prices will not be raised until the end of the year," Bahlil explained on Friday (4/17/2026).

This policy, he continued, is good news for the public, especially those most impacted by energy price fluctuations.

From a fiscal perspective, the government considers the policy safe to implement. This is supported by the Indonesian Crude Price, which remains below budget assumptions, so fiscal space is considered strong enough to maintain the stability of subsidized fuel prices without increasing the burden on the public.

Meanwhile, on the supply side, he stated that the government still faces an import requirement of around 1 million barrels per day. This is because national fuel consumption has reached 1.6 million barrels per day, while domestic production is only in the range of 600,000-610,000 barrels per day.

Furthermore, the government is also open to strengthening energy cooperation with Russia, not only in crude oil supply but also in the supporting infrastructure sector. Bahlil mentioned discussions regarding investment in refineries and energy storage as part of efforts to strengthen long-term national energy security.
