Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government has formulated several contingency plans to mitigate the impact of escalating Middle East conflicts on the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage, prioritizing the security and welfare of Indonesian nationals.
Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, announced on Tuesday (10/3/2026) that the administration is preparing for various security shifts, including potential route changes or a full suspension of departures if the safety of citizens is compromised, as reported by antaranews.com.
“The President's primary message is clear: his focus is to ensure the safety of the Hajj pilgrims; that is the most paramount consideration,” he said following a state event at the Palace, explainingd that if conventional flight paths are deemed high-risk, the government will coordinate with international aviation authorities to redirect flights via southern routes or African airspace.
The deputy minister said that a postponement remains a viable last-resort option. Currently, the government is conducting a thorough risk assessment of the regional geopolitical climate before making a final determination. The first cohort of pilgrims is tentatively scheduled for departure on 22 April 2026, contingent upon a favorable security evaluation.
Any final decision regarding the 2026 Hajj season will involve multi-sectoral discussions between the executive branch, the House of Representatives (DPR), and relevant security agencies.
