The Head of the Government Communications Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, stated that the government wants the commemoration of the 81st Indonesian Independence to be a celebration that is intimate to the people through an open and inclusive space for public participation.
"The government really wants this year's independence commemoration to feel different and closer to the hearts of the people. We want the month of independence to be a space for celebration that belongs to all of us. A space for public participation that is truly open and inclusive," Qodari said in a video statement received on Wednesday (8/5/2026).
Qodari said the government wants this year's independence commemoration to be more than just a state ceremony, but also one that is directly felt by the people.
According to him, this spirit has begun to be realized by directly involving the public in selecting the official logo for the 81st Indonesian Independence Day.
"We took the first step towards this inclusivity by directly involving the wider community in selecting the official logo for the 81st Indonesian Independence Day. This is a beautiful first step," he said.
Qodari also encouraged all levels of society to use the 81st Indonesian Independence Day commemoration as a stepping stone to strengthen the spirit of mutual cooperation and optimism in continuing development.
This year's commemoration carries the theme "Sovereign, Justice, and Prosperous Indonesia". According to him, this theme serves as a reminder that the ideals of the nation's founders can only be realized through hard work and collaboration from all elements of the country.
In addition to the state ceremony, the government will hold a People's Festival for the 81st Indonesian Independence Day, centered around the National Monument and the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout.
The event will feature folk entertainment, traditional competitions, various performances, and the provision of hundreds of thousands of free meals.
"We ensure that this independence celebration truly lives on and belongs to all Indonesians without exception," he said.
