Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) is urging the government to adjust the fuel surcharge and domestic Airfare Upper Limit (TBA) following a dramatic surge in aviation fuel (avtur) prices that took effect on 1 April 2026.
"This adjustment is critical for the sustainability of the national aviation industry, especially as avtur prices have spiked due to global geopolitical tensions in the Middle East," said INACA Chairman Denon Prawiraatmadja on Thursday (2/4/2026), as cited by antaranews.com
According to INACA data, the domestic avtur price at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport jumped 72.45% this month, rising from Rp 13,656 to Rp 23,551 per liter. When compared to 2019 levels, which is the baseline for current fare caps, the price has skyrocketed by 295%. International avtur prices also saw an 80% increase.
Since fuel accounts for approximately 40% of airline operational costs, INACA warns that without an immediate revision of the fuel surcharge and TBA, carriers will struggle to maintain financial stability and national connectivity. While the association previously requested a 15% increase, they are now calling for a higher adjustment that reflects the current reality of fuel costs to ensure flight safety and business continuity.
