Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced a significant natural gas discovery at the Geliga-1 well in the Ganal Block, boasting an estimated 5 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas and 300 million barrels of condensate.
"This discovery is a divine gift at a time when the world is fiercely guarding energy reserves, and we must remain focused on finding new oil and gas sources," said Minister Bahlil Lahadalia during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (20/4/2026), as reported by antaranews.com.
The exploration, operated by Italian energy giant ENI, recorded a milestone in the Kutai Basin's development. This finding is expected to significantly bolster national reserves and support the government’s strategic goal of achieving domestic energy self-sufficiency by 2030.
Production from the site is projected to peak at 3,000 MMSCFD within the next few years. The government is now accelerating infrastructure integration with the Bontang LNG plant to optimize economic returns and strengthen the national industrial gas supply.
