inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that Indonesia is currently a global benchmark in the food sector. He said Indonesia has even received international awards in the food sector for its success in achieving self-sufficiency.

"Many countries have come to Indonesia to learn from, from Japan to Canada to Belarus. This is proof that we are on the right track toward food self-sufficiency," Andi stated on Thursday (3/26/2026).

However, he still emphasized that the food crisis is a real threat that could destabilize the country.

He stated that dependence on imports not only has economic impacts but also brings political pressure. 

"One million tons of rice imports could bring significant pressure from exporting countries," he stressed.

On the occasion, he outlined several strategic government programs, including energy-saving programs and the downstreaming of leading commodities. 

Coconut downstreaming, for example, is said to have a potential economic value of up to IDR 5,000 trillion. Other commodities, such as gambier, also have downstream potential of up to IDR 5,000 trillion.

Furthermore, Indonesia currently dominates the global palm oil (CPO) market, making it a major player in the industry. According to Amran, this proves Indonesia's ability to lead the global food and agribusiness sector.

In a historic moment, Indonesia also successfully exported 10,000 tons of rice to Palestine, which he described as the first export in history to the region.
