Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government issued a stern condemnation on Wednesday (1/4/2026( after the Israeli Knesset passed legislation facilitating death sentences for Palestinian prisoners convicted of fatal attacks against Israelis.

"This law represents a grave violation of international human rights and humanitarian law, undermining universal justice and human dignity," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an official release, as reported by antaranews.com

The Ministry argued that the legislation violates the Fourth Geneva Convention and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, specifically the right to a fair trial. The new law notably excludes Israeli citizens from such sentencing and allows judges to impose the death penalty even without a unanimous decision or a prosecutor's request. Indonesia has called upon the United Nations to take immediate action to ensure the protection of the more than 9,300 Palestinians currently held in Israeli custody.

Jakarta reiterated its support for Palestinian sovereignty with East Jerusalem as its capital. Officials urged the international community to hold the occupying power accountable for policies that exacerbate the suffering of detainees facing reported torture and medical neglect.
