Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Health has ramped up early detection and supplementary immunization programs following official notification from Australian health authorities regarding Indonesian citizens who tested positive for measles after traveling from Indonesia this February.
The strategic mitigation targets school-aged children, particularly in high-burden regions, to prevent localized outbreaks from escalating.
“As an immediate response, we are strengthening measles surveillance and intensifying catch-up routine immunization for children, especially in areas with high case loads throughout 2025–2026,” said Andi Saguni, the Acting Director General of Disease Prevention and Control, on Tuesday (24/2/2026), as reported by antaranews.com.
The cases involved an 18-year-old traveler on a Jakarta–Perth route and an unvaccinated 6-year-old flying Jakarta–Sydney, both later confirmed via PCR testing. While the Ministry reported 550 cases nationwide as of February 2026, officials emphasized that no national extraordinary outbreak status has been declared. Hospitals remain on high alert to manage potential complications and curb further transmission.
