Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Defense has clarified that the recently signed Defense Cooperation Arrangement (DCA) with Japan does not include provisions for the purchase of primary weaponry systems.
The agreement, signed on Monday, focuses instead on strategic technology development and maritime security.
"There is no specific agreement regarding certain procurements yet," said Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, the Head of the Defense Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defense, on Tuesday (5/5/2026), as reported by antaranews.com..
He explained that both nations are currently prioritizing cooperation in military technology innovation and strengthening maritime surveillance, which are vital for domestic defense industry growth and regional stability.
While specific sales were not part of this arrangement, Chiefl Rico noted that potential future procurement cooperation remains possible, provided it aligns with Indonesia's national interests and constitutional mandates. The current DCA, signed by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, formally covers personnel exchanges, military research, joint exercises, and disaster management cooperation.
