Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Japan in their third-round World Cup Qualifier for the 2026 tournament in Asia, held at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Friday (15/11/2024).

Japan’s goals came from an own goal by Indonesia’s Justin Hubner (35'), followed by Takumi Minamino (40'), Hidemasa Morita (49'), and Yukinari Sugawara (69').

Despite Japan’s dominance, Indonesia's defense initially held strong, and they had a chance early on with Ragnar Oratmangoen, who failed to score in a one-on-one with Japan's goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, according to antaranews.com.

Japan, ranked 15th in the world, asserted their quality throughout the match, with players like Minamino and Kaoru Mitoma putting pressure on Indonesia's defense.

"We were unable to keep up with their pace and quality," said Indonesia coach Shin Tae-yong, according to antaranews.com.

With this loss, Indonesia remains at the bottom of Group C with three points from five matches, while Japan tops the group with 13 points. Indonesia will next face Saudi Arabia on 19 November 2024 at SUGBK.
