The Indonesian National Police (INP) dispatched specialized headquarters reinforcements for deployment to Labuan Bajo to accelerate crisis response operations for the magnitude 7.7 East Nusa Tenggara earthquake on Saturday (15/8/2026) as East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Darmoko directly inspected affected sites in Sikka Regency.

Chief  Rudi, East Nusa Tenggara Governor Melkiades Laka Lena and local leaders, departed Kupang for Sikka aboard a police CASA 212-200 aircraft at 1.30 pm. Upon arriving at Alok Police Office in Sikka Regency, the delegation distributed initial relief packages to approximately 100 affected residents and reviewed field logistics.

"We are present to provide direct assistance and relieve the burden on affected communities," Chief Rudi said. "This represents initial aid, and further support will follow swiftly based on field assessments."

On Saturday night, the INP headquarters dispatched a joint task force via chartered flight from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Komodo International Airport in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai.

INP Head of Public Relations Division Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir detailed that the task force comprises 100 Mobile Brigade (Brimob) SAR officers, three Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) specialists, three Logistics Division (Slog) officers, a trauma healing team from the Human Resources Staff (SSDM Psychology Bureau), and Public Relations officers.

"This reinforcement demonstrates the INP’s multi-layered response," Chief Johnny explained. "We are sending both specialized officers and operational capabilities required to address critical needs on the ground, prioritizing public safety and human-centered support."
