inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) is preparing hundreds of personnel to be deployed to Central Papua and North Maluku to strengthen security and respond to developments in the public order and security situation in the two regions.
A readiness check of the Mobile Brigade troops assigned to Central Papua was held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the Mobile Brigade Headquarters and led by the Vice Chief of INP.
The personnel deployed include 100 personnel for Central Papua, a team of General Supervision Inspectorate consisting of 8 personnel divided between Central Papua and North Maluku, a BIK team consisting of 10 personnel for Central Papua, a team of Division of Profession and Security consisting of 26 personnel divided between the two regions, and a Criminal Investigation team consisting of 20 personnel for Central Papua.
For North Maluku, 12 Division of Profession and Security personnel departed on Saturday morning on a Beechcraft aircraft. Meanwhile, four General Supervision Inspectorate personnel are still in the process of securing their departure tickets.
Meanwhile, for reinforcements in Central Papua, a total of 148 joint personnel will be deployed. They are scheduled to depart on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at 1:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) on Batik Air, bound for Nabire.
This reinforcement measure is being implemented in line with developments in the public order and security situation in several areas. In Central Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, a conflict broke out between residents of Bobane Jaya Village and Sibenpopo Village, sparked by the alleged murder of a resident.
The incident then escalated into a mutual attack between the denizens of Bobane Jaya Village and Sibenpopo Village, resulting in casualties and the burning of homes, public facilities, and a place of worship. Joint personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI), INP, and the local government moved quickly to calm the conflict, allowing the situation to return to normal by Friday afternoon.
Furthermore, in Dogiyai Regency, Central Papua, an act of serious assault against a police officer, Second Brigadier Juventus Edowai, was committed by unknown assailants, resulting in his death.
Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of Public Information of INP's Public Relations Division, emphasized that they are committed to maintaining security stability and responding quickly to any developments on the ground.
"We have taken swift action by deploying additional personnel to strengthen security and handle the situation in Central Papua and North Maluku. We are also prioritizing a humane approach and enforcing the law against perpetrators of violence," he said.
