inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Registration and Identification Directorate, is targeting the mandatory use of electronic vehicle registration certificates (BPKB), or e-BPKB, for new cars by 2027.

"Our target is that by 2027, all new vehicles in Indonesia will be required to use e-BPKB. The implementation is currently being underway gradually, starting with new cars in March 2025," said Brigadier General Wibowo, Director of Registration and Identification at INP Traffic Corps on Monday (1/19/2026).

Wibowo explained that entering 2026, Indonesia will be in a transitional period for implementing e-BPKB for new vehicles.

Although electronic and equipped with an RFID chip, the e-BPKB remains in physical form, thus not eliminating their use for conventional documents but enhancing them with a digital system.

He explained that the e-BPKB has several significant advantages. In terms of data security, the RFID chip in the e-BPKB digitally stores vehicle data and is directly connected to the systems of INP Traffic Corps, banks, leasing companies, and pawnshops, making it more secure and difficult to counterfeit.

In terms of service speed, the vehicle transfer process can be completed in just one business day because the data is digitally stored and integrated.

Furthermore, the e-BPKB supports system integration through a single data base between the Korlantas Polri and financing institutions. Regarding the processing mechanism, Wibowo stated that the e-BPKB for new vehicles can be processed simultaneously with the STNK issuance process at the nearest Samsat (Vehicle Registration Office).

He explained that residents only need to prepare documents such as their ID card (KTP), vehicle invoice, STNK (for renewal or transfer of ownership), and purchase receipt.
