inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia confirmed that the Indonesian government continues to maintain intensive communication with the Iranian government to secure the release of two Pertamina tankers from the Strait of Hormuz.

"It's not easy for us to find a way to get our ships out of the Strait of Hormuz. But we continue to maintain communication," Bahlil said when met at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Friday (3/27/2026).

PT Pertamina (Persero) had previously ensured the safety of the crew of the tanker owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) still in the Strait of Hormuz, amid geopolitical tensions between Iran and the United States (US).

Meanwhile, on Wednesday (March 4), Bahlil also confirmed that the entrapment of the two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz would not affect Indonesia's energy security, as Indonesia was quickly seeking alternative energy sources in the United States.

Pertamina Vice President of Corporate Communications Muhammad Baron stated on Tuesday (3/3/2026) that a total of four vessels were involved, but two others were outside the Strait of Hormuz.

Baron stated that crude oil cargoes originating from the Middle East currently account for around 19 percent of total crude oil imports into Indonesia.

According to him, Pertamina has prepared a distribution scheme through regular, alternative, and emergency systems to maintain national energy security.
