Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Customs Office has shuttered three Tiffany & Co. boutiques across the capital’s premier shopping districts following allegations of systematic under-invoicing and high-value goods smuggling.
On Wednesday, authorities targeted outlets at Plaza Indonesia, Plaza Senayan, and Pacific Place after management failed to produce mandatory import clearance documents during a surprise verification sweep.
"These retailers were unable to prove the legality of their stock, serving as a stern warning to businesses that manipulating commodity values at the state's expense is intolerable," Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said, as cited by antaranews.com.
The operation, which identified discrepancies in Harmonized System classifications, aims to recover lost tax revenue and ensure market fairness. Officials indicated that if found guilty of administrative fraud under the Customs Law, the multinational jeweler faces a staggering 1,000% fine on unpaid duties.
Investigators are also probing potential internal collusion within the customs ranks to determine how the luxury items bypassed border controls.
