Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono confirmed that a viral video capturing an informal conversation between President Prabowo Subianto and U.S. President Donald Trump during the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, was purely personal and unrelated to state matters.

“Many topics were discussed outside formal diplomacy,  they’re long-time friends,” he said on Tuesday (14/10/2025), emphasizing that the chat was nonofficial and part of friendly exchanges often seen between world leaders.

The clarification came after the two leaders’ conversation, picked up by a live microphone, spread widely online. In the clip, President Prabowo was heard asking Trump about a potential meeting with his son, Eric Trump, an executive at the Trump Organization.

Minister Sugiono added that any official matters requiring diplomatic follow-up would be formally directed through the Foreign Ministry. 

“The President often engages informally with other heads of state,” he noted, as quoted by antaranews.com.
