Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indian automotive giant Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has clarified that it intends to proceed with the delivery of 35,000 light commercial vehicles (LCVs) to Indonesia this year despite reports from the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives regarding a potential suspension of the massive 105,000-unit import plan involving both Mahindra and Tata Motors.
Despite the Indonesian government’s announcement on 26 February 2026 that the project would be put on hold pending President Prabowo Subianto's review,
Mahindra issued a statement on Tuesday that they have received no official notification of a suspension. Furthermore, the company confirmed that it has already received an advance payment for the order, antaranews.com reported on Wednesday (4/3/2026)
The fleet, specifically the Scorpio Pik Up model produced in Nashik, India, is intended for the Red and White Village Cooperative project under the state-owned firm Agrinas Pangan Nusantara.
The procurement has sparked significant domestic controversy. The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and various automotive associations have urged the government to cancel the import, warning it could destabilize the local automotive industry.
While some initial units have already arrived at Tanjung Priok Port, the Director of Agrinas has stated the company will comply with any final state decision, even if it necessitates legal challenges from suppliers.
