Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI), has called on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to investigate the identity of a bidder who purchased two second-hand OPPO mobile phones for Rp59.72 million.
The phones, which were auctioned by the KPK with a starting limit of only Rp73,000, reached a final price nearly 800 times the initial valuation, a figure far exceeding the market value for used devices of that brand.
"The KPK must delve into who the buyer is; there may be secrets within those devices that need to be uncovered," said Boyamin Saiman, the Coordinator of MAKI, on Tuesday (17/3/306), as reported by antaranews.com.
He argued that unlike collectible items like batik, mobile phones typically depreciate rapidly, suggesting the high price was paid to "rescue" sensitive data rather than for the hardware itself. Boyamin warned that the data contained in the phones could potentially hold evidence of further corrupt activities that the buyer wants to prevent from leaking to the public.
The KPK has officially acknowledged the bid as an anomaly. It confirmed that while the winner has secured the bid, they have yet to fully settle the payment. The deadline for the final transaction is 25 March 2026. If the bidder fails to pay, the security deposit will be forfeited to the state, and the phones, which may still hold critical digital forensic value, will be put back up for auction.
