Inp.polri.go.id - Padang. The West Sumatra Immigration Office is investigating how Nur Amira, a 37-year-old Malaysian citizen, obtained an Indonesian identity card (KTP) despite her foreign status, while also revealing that she could legally become an Indonesian citizen through marriage under Article 19 of Law No. 12/2006.
“When she received the KTP, we questioned how a foreign citizen could obtain such a document. Legally, one way to become an Indonesian citizen is by marrying an Indonesian and applying for citizenship,” said West Sumatra Immigration Chief Nurudin on Wednesday (08/10/2025)..
Nur Amira, of Malaysian and Singaporean descent, has lived in Indonesia since 1996 and married an Indonesian in 2009, later divorcing in 2015. She has been deported twice for immigration violations and is now held in detention awaiting coordination with the Malaysian Consulate.
The deportation may separate her from her 15-year-old daughter, Zahira, who remains in Payakumbuh.
“Her KTP has been deactivated,” Nurudin confirmed, as quoted by antaranews.com
