inp.polri.go.id- Jakarta. Minister of Manpower Yassierli urged university graduates to equip themselves with a number of tools to face technological disruption, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), in a dynamic job market.
"Be lifelong learners who are ready to adapt to all changes in business and technology," said Yassierli on Monday (4/27/2026).
In his statement, Yassierli presented data showing that the job landscape is undergoing a massive shift. Citing LinkedIn data, he stated that 80 percent of current job titles did not exist 20 years ago. In fact, it is predicted that around 50 percent of existing jobs will become irrelevant in the next ten years.
"The world of labor continues to change with technological advancements. Our biggest challenge today is the digital skills gap. Currently, only 27 percent of our workers have digital skills, far below the global standard of 60 to 70 percent," explained Yassierli.
However, behind this shift in the job landscape, he stated that there are new economic opportunities that must be optimized by the younger generation, such as the green economy, digital platforms, and the care economy.
Therefore, to enable college graduates to seize the opportunities in this new job landscape, the Minister of Manpower introduced the concept of "Triple Readiness."
First, Technical Skills Readiness. He explained that college graduates need to prepare themselves to master technical skills relevant to future industries, such as advanced digital skills and green jobs.
Second, Human Skills Readiness. Amid the massive use of AI, he emphasized that human skills such as critical thinking, empathy, leadership, and creativity remain key differentiators.
"AI will not work optimally without a human touch. Human skills enable users to understand the context, limitations, and risks of AI," said Yassierli.
Third, Market Entry Readiness. The Minister of Manpower stated that this relates to graduates' ability to understand industry dynamics. Therefore, he encouraged graduates to have a strong portfolio, internship experience, and competency certification as concrete evidence of their capabilities in the eyes of companies.
Furthermore, he also highlighted the urgency of mastering AI. This aligns with the increasing demand for jobs with AI skills in Southeast Asia, which has surged 2.4-fold in the past five years.
In his closing statement, he emphasized the government's commitment to providing access to competency development for all Indonesians.
