A routine night patrol of the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) unit turned into a medical rescue early Saturday morning (30/5/2026) when a joint police unit found an online motorcycle taxi driver collapsed on the side of the road in Jatinegara, East Jakarta.

The incident occurred at approximately 2.27 am along Jalan Jenderal Basuki Rachmat road in Cipinang Muara area. Officers from the Batalyon B Pelopor of the Metro Jaya Brimob unit and the East Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police Precision Pioneer Team noticed a small crowd gathered on the pavement and stopped to investigate.

They discovered the driver lying on the ground, weak and suffering from severe physical exhaustion.

"Our officers immediately checked on his condition, secured the scene, and called for an ambulance to ensure she received prompt medical assistance," said Senior Superintendent Henik Maryanto, the Commander of the Metro Jaya Police Brimob Unit.

The officers administered basic first aid and stayed with the driver until an ambulance arrived to transport him to a nearby hospital.

Prior to the encounter, the joint patrol unit had been combing through vulnerability hotspots between Jatinegara and Pulogadung areas to prevent street crime and youth brawls. However, Chief Henik said that public safety duties are not limited to law enforcement.

“Patrols are not just about preventing crime, but also about making sure the police are there when the community needs them,” he said. “When a resident needs help, our officers must respond immediately.”
