Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia assured the public on Tuesday (14/4/2026)that the government will maintain affordable energy supplies while aggressively reducing import dependency through domestic refinery expansion.
"Energy security is not just about supply, but also about national economic sovereignty and sustainability," he said while addressing strategic efforts to protect domestic purchasing power.
The government successfully halted diesel imports through refinery upgrades and the mandatory biodiesel program, though gasoline and LPG remain vulnerable to global market fluctuations. To address this, Indonesia is accelerating coal-to-DME downstreaming and preparing the B50 biodiesel rollout for July 2026, which aims to save Rp48 trillion in subsidies.
With domestic oil production currently at 605,000 barrels per day against a 1.6-million-barrel demand, the ministry is diversifying sources to bypass geopolitical risks in the Strait of Hormuz. These long-term measures, supported by Pertamina’s infrastructure readiness, focus on achieving total energy independence and stabilizing the national economy against international supply shocks.
