Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago ordered private corporations to assist in extinguishing land and forest fires even if the blazes occur outside their concession boundaries.
Speaking during the 2026 National Land Forest Fires Preparedness Briefing in Pekanbaru on Thursday(5/3/2026), he said that corporate environmental responsibility does not end at their property lines.
"Companies cannot simply say their area is clear and stop there. If they have the resources to help elsewhere, they are obligated to engage," Minister Djamari said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The briefing showcased advanced firefighting assets, including the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) patrol helicopters and weather modification aircraft currently deployed to manage over 1,000 hectares of burning land in Riau.
The Minister highlighted that ongoing cloud seeding operations aim to build water reserves ahead of a severe dry spell expected in two months. Major firms, including PT RAPP and state-owned PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan, have been instructed to mobilize personnel and specialized equipment alongside the military and Manggala Agni to prevent a transboundary haze crisis.
