Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Military (TNI)’s Habema Task Force fatally shot Jeki Murib, a commander of the Free Papua Organization (OPM), during a shootout in Omukia District, Central Papua, on 20 April 2026. 

Murib served as the Operations Commander for the Kepala Air OPM Kodap 18 Ilaga.

"It is true [the shootout] resulted in the death of Jeki Murib," confirmed Lieutenant Colonel Wirya Arthadiguna, the spokesperson for the Habema Task Force, on Tuesday (28/4/2026), as cited by antaranews.com..

Murib was reportedly responsible for numerous criminal acts, including attacks on airports, civilians, and employees of PT Freeport Indonesia. 

Chief Wirya explained that the military intervention was necessary to stop a reign of terror that had disrupted the local economy and threatened public safety. The operation was conducted under the framework of Military Operations Other Than War (OMSP), prioritizing community protection and regional stability in line with national security laws.
