inp.polri.go.id - Jayawijaya. The 2025 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force and the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) were involved in a gunfight in Pugima Village, Welalelama District, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains, Monday (6/9/2025) night. One KKB member who is suspected of being Egianus Kogoya's group member was killed in the gunfight.

Head of the Damai Cartenz Operation, Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, explained that the incident occurred on Monday at around 18.36 WIT when the Law Enforcement Task Force Team was on patrol when suddenly shots were heard from the front left of the team's vehicle. The officers then returned fire.

"The team immediately blocked the road toward Tembus Pugima. At around 21:18 pm, there was another exchange of fire between the team  led by Police Senior Inspector Budi Basra and around seven KKB members in the Maima Village area," said Faizal Ramadhani on Tuesday (6/10/2025).

According to him, the body of the KKB member  was then evacuated to the Wamena Regional Hospital for the identification process. The identity is still being investigated, but it is strongly suspected that the body of the KKB member is one of Egianus Kogoya's men.

"From the results of the initial identification, the person is a member of the KKB led by Egianus Kogoya. This is based on the matching physical characteristics, face, clothing, and visual documentation that had circulated when they were with Egianus Kogoya. However, we are still investigating his identity thoroughly," said Brigadier General Faizal.

Evidence secured from the scene included one handy talky (HT), one Vivo Y17 cellphone, and one package of dried marijuana. The KKB member is also suspected of being a repeat offender in a marijuana narcotics case.
