inp.polri.go.id - Jambi. The Jambi Regional Police responded quickly to the flooding that struck several areas in Merangin and Sarolangun Regencies in the early hours of Sunday (4/26/2026) by assisting in the evacuation of victims.
"Currently, several police personnel, along with relevant stakeholders, are immediately mobilizing to handle the situation, conduct limited evacuations, and provide assistance to affected communities," said Jambi Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Superintendent Elran Munaji, on Sunday (4/27/2026).
Personnel were deployed to assist with evacuations in Pamenang Selatan District, Merangin Regency, where flooding caused by the overflowing Batang Tembesi River inundated Pulau Bayur Village and Selango Village, inundating and even damaging dozens of homes.
"The personnel went directly to the location to conduct inspections, secure the area, and warn the public to be alert for potential aftershocks," said Erlan.
Preliminary data shows that 60 houses were affected and 15 houses damaged in Pulau Bayur Village. Public facilities such as schools, places of worship, and suspension bridges were also damaged, but there were no casualties.
The Jambi Regional Police, through the Pamenang Sector Police, have also distributed basic food aid to affected residents and continue to coordinate with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and related agencies regarding post-flood response.
Police personnel are on standby to monitor water levels and anticipate potential aftershocks, assist the community, and ensure the situation remains safe and conducive.
In addition, officers are actively advising the public to avoid activities near fast-flowing rivers and to remain vigilant for extreme weather changes.
Furthermore, the public is urged to remain vigilant, given the potential for high rainfall.
"We urge the public to remain vigilant against the potential for flash flooding, to avoid activities in flood-prone areas, and to immediately report to officers if they need assistance," said Erlan.
