Inp.polri.go.id - Wamena. The Jayawijaya Sub-regional Police and  the Damai Cartenz Task Force conducted a crime scene investigation following a shooting that injured two civilians at the main entrance of the Baliem Valley Cultural Festival in Jayawijaya, Highland Papua, on Saturday (8/8)/2026.

"Joint officers secured the location, ensured the victims received medical treatment, and evacuated visitors, including foreigners, to safety," said Damai Cartenz Task Force Head of Public Relations Head Senior Superintendnet Yusuf Sutejo.

Investigators recovered shell casings, projectile fragments, and a vehicle marked by bullet holes. Initial findings link the attack to the armed criminal group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya, with authorities examining the potential involvement of two members identified as EG and PN. 

Damai Cartenz Task Force Head Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani said that joint forces are pursuing the perpetrators while maintaining strict security measures across the region to protect the public.
