Police Investigate the Attack on a Social Activist in Salemba, Jakarta

inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Central Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police are investigating the acid attack on the Vice Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), AY (27), on Salemba I street, Senen, Central Jakarta.

Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Regional Metro Police, Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto, stated that investigators are still investigating the incident. The victim has received medical treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) after suffering severe burns from the acid.

"We confirm there is an attack against the victim with a dangerous liquid in Salemba, ​​Central Jakarta. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at RSCM, and the police are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the perpetrator and the motive behind the incident," explained Budi in a statement on Friday (3/13/2026).

He explained that the incident began when the victim was riding a motorcycle alone when suddenly, someone doused him with the acid from the front, causing him to fall.

After the incident, he said, the victim asked his friend, RFA (30), to take him to the hospital. The victim was then taken to the RSCM emergency room for medical treatment.

He explained that as a result of the incident, the victim suffered injuries to his both hands, face, chest, and right eye. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at RSCM.

Budi emphasized that the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police will handle this case seriously and professionally. He also urged the public with information related to the incident to report it immediately.

"We prioritize the victim's safety and will follow up on any information and evidence we receive. We also urge the public with knowledge of this incident or any related information to report it immediately to the nearest police station," he said.
