inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Flash floods and landslides struck Hamlets 6 and 8 in Manduriang, Simpang Sender Utara Village, Buay Pematang Ribu Ranau Tengah (BPRRT) District, South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, on Saturday evening (3/28/2026).
As a result, one resident suffered minor injuries, seven houses were severely damaged, and at least 32 families were affected.
The disaster was triggered by heavy rain that had been pounding the area since the afternoon. At 6:30 p.m.. a landslide occurred, accompanied by a rumbling sound, from behind the residential area.
Soil and tree debris fell on people's homes, causing severe damage and burying some buildings and vehicles. One victim suffered minor injuries from falling building debris and had received medical treatment.
Furthermore, several homes were severely damaged, including one house buried by the landslide and several other buildings affected by the flash flood. At approximately 8:00 PM, flash floods struck the area, worsening the situation in residential areas.
The strong currents swept away some buildings, adding to the material losses. Upon receiving reports of the incident, personnel of the South OKU Sub-regional Police, through the Banding Agung Sector Police, immediately mobilized to the location to secure the area, evacuate victims, and assess the impact of the disaster.
Personnel also coordinated with the South OKU Regency Government, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and relevant agencies for emergency response.
The South OKU Police Chief, along with the Regency Government, also visited the location to ensure optimal response and distribute aid to affected residents.
Cleanup of the affected areas will also be carried out in stages to accelerate environmental normalization. The Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu'min Wijaya, emphasized that this disaster response demonstrates the police's presence among the community during emergency situations.
"We, together with the local government and all relevant elements, have moved quickly to address the impact of this disaster. Public safety is our top priority, and mitigation efforts will continue until conditions recover," said Nandang on Sunday (3/29/2026).
