Barelang Sub-regional City Police Traffic Unit Chief, Police Assistant Superintendent Afiditya Arief Wibowo, stated that the program aims to instill the values ​​of safety, discipline, and awareness through education.

According to data from the police, the number of traffic violations by students in the first semester of 2026 decreased compared to the same period the previous year.

At the elementary school level, violations decreased from 98 cases to 79. At the junior high school level, the number of violations decreased from 1,386 cases to 462, while at the senior high school level, the number decreased from 2,307 cases to 1,157.

"This decline in violations proves that education from an early age can build a sustainable awareness of traffic rules," he said in Batam on Wednesday (7/29/2026).

The traffic education program was launched on December 17, 2025, and began implementation in January 2026 in 210 public schools in Batam City, comprising 145 elementary schools and 65 junior high schools.

Traffic education materials were integrated into the Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn) subject.

Before implementation, PPKn teachers also participated in training of trainers (TOT) to deliver the material to students.

Afiditya stated that this educational and preventative approach is expected to foster a culture of orderly traffic behavior from an early age, so that safety awareness develops not only in school but also in everyday life.
