Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police have questioned 31 witnesses as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into the deadly train collision at East Bekasi Station. 

The incident, which occurred on 27 April 2026, resulted in 16 fatalities and dozens of injuries after a long-distance train struck a stationary commuter line from behind.

"To date, investigators have taken statements from 31 individuals, including the taxi driver involved, crossing guards, eyewitnesses, victims, and PT KAI operational staff," said Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto, on Sunday (3/5/2026), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The disaster began when a taxi stalled on a level crossing due to electrical failure, causing an initial collision with a commuter train. While the commuter train made an emergency stop at the station, it was subsequently rear-ended by the Argo Bromo Anggrek intercity express train. 

Investigators are now analyzing CCTV footage and coordinating with the Directorate General of Railways to determine potential negligence or system failures.
