inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Bali Regional Police Water and Air Security Directorate successfully thwarted an attempted trafficking operation involving 21 protected green turtles in the coastal area of Buleleng Regency.
During the operation, officers also apprehended a man suspected of involvement in the illegal wildlife trade. The case was disclosed by the Head of the Bali Regional Police's Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate, Superintendent Nanang Pri Hasmoko, based on a police report issued in June 2026.
The case came to light after officers received information from the public who suspected the buying and selling of green turtles in the Pegametan Beach area, Sumberkima Village, Gerokgak District.
Following up on the report, the police team conducted an investigation and ultimately executed a raid on the location on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
During the raid, officers apprehended a man identified as KS (67), suspected of storing the protected animals prior to distribution. At the scene, police found and confiscated 21 live green turtles and a cell phone suspected of being used to communicate in the illegal transaction.
"We have arrested a man suspected of being involved in storing protected animals for trade purposes," said Nanang.
Based on initial investigations, KS admitted that dozens of turtles were shipped from Madura, East Java, by a person named Iwan.
The protected animals were then planned to be handed over to another party, identified as KMG, who is suspected of reselling the turtles. Police have listed both individuals as wanted persons and are currently pursuing them.
Nanang emphasized that his team will continue to expand the investigation to dismantle the entire wildlife trafficking network involved.
