inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police moved to handle the report of an abuse against ship crew that has gone viral in social media. 

The Tanjung Priok Sub-regional Police has coordinated with the related authorities to check on the security of the ship crew.

The Head of Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police Public Relations, Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto says that the case is currently being processed. According to the initial investigation, the ship is currently in the waters of Aru Island, Maluku.

“We have confirmed the position of the ship, where it is now in the waters of Aru Island,” says Budi in Jakarta, Friday (10/2/2026).

Relating to the ship crew, Budi says the ship crews have been evacuated from the location and have been moved to the health facilities for treatment.

“The crews are in Dobo General Hospital for medical treatment,” says Budi.

Information regarding the abuse had previously gone viral in social media, one of which was posted by @bndct.id instagram account which showed the abuse against fishermen in Indonesia.

In the post, the workers were beaten, punched and kicked when they were just making slight mistakes.

“The fishermen were beaten, punched and kicked when they were making small mistakes. The information came after a witness statement relating to the abuse,” wrote the post.

The post did not include the location of the abuse, but there were allegations that the ship was in Muara Baru, Jakarta.

Police are currently looking into the case and looking for the statements from related parties involved in the abuse.
